Just like the previous reviewer, I dealt with the problem of the driver's window for a long time until one day when the window remained down and open. I ordered this replacement and it arrived in 3 days. I installed it without even opening up the door panel. It worked/works like a charm.

Beyond expectations
Reviewed by ExpressCheckoutUser on 00/00/0000
1. Exceeded expectations in that the manufacturer/seller Switch Doctor said it would add "auto" up and down (not just auto down like Subaru originally designed) to the DRIVER'S side, but when the switch came, it ALSO added it to the front passenger side as well. The label "auto" is a bit hard to see, but it's there. Instead of working based on separate sensors -of course none are added in the window mechanism like a Lexus-, it seems to work on voltage drop, so it's not 100% fully effective to the stops, when some other electrical item triggers a large drop in voltage, the window stops, but it's still a great feature! There is an extra "click" in the switch to give feedback so you can move the window a little without "auto" just like in high-end cars, or you can push or pull all the way to the full stop for auto up/down. Too bad all cars don't have this feature in all windows!ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT THOUGH: Each window switch should be lighted. This is an oversight from Subaru, but could be cheaply corrected by a replacement aftermarket switch! This has always been a problem for me in this car as I switch to it from my other car.2. Also exceeded expectations in that I shopped the Switch Doctor site before ordering through Switch Doctor, thought I was ordering for my Legacy wagon, and realized after ordering Switch Doctor called out a different part # and it said it was for the similar Outback wagon. Called Switch Doctor and got a friendly, live person after hours right away when I thought I'd leave a voice mail. She understood the value of true customer service and helped me right away. We both suspected it would be the same part (it was) but SHE PERSONALLY HANDLED THE ISSUE AND THAT'S THE TRUE NATURE OF CUSTOMER SERVICE. The part came quicker than expected, and the most time consuming part of the whole repair was the extra time I spent cleaning the dirt inside before I replaced the switch, just because I had it removed. Total time was less than 20 minutes, including carefully wiggling the connector off the old switch, vacuum and Armor All. Nice. Thanks Switch Doctor -well executed from beginning to now.

After living with a driver's side window that didn't work for far too long, and being too cheap to take it to a place and get it fixed, I finally ordered a new control switch. Switch Doctor through Switch Doctor had the lowest price and the product arrived promptly. Replacing the switch was easy once the inside panel for the door was removed, it is a simple plug and go device. The switch works perfectly and we haven't had any problems with it since we installed it 6 months ago. My only regret is that I didn't order it sooner.

Easy DIY fix for my 2001 Subaru Outback. Driver side window was starting to not want to role up, this was easy to install and fixed the problem. 4 star review because the buttons are a bit stiff and feel a little on the cheap side but for the price compared to OM parts I can learn to live with it. Was hoping with time they would loosen but after a month they are still stiff, especially the door unlock button.

Works well in my 2002 Subaru Outback. The full up and down buttons for the driver and passenger windows are great.I gave it 4 stars because even though it added the full up and down button feature, the button is no longer lit which I liked. It made it easier to find the switch during night time driving. Not a huge deal but not 5 star since it did take away a previous feature. Also the picture is not exactly right, it only shows the driver side with auto but both sides have it.

My door controls failed on my Outback. Ordered this unit as it seemed well received by other purchasers and it’s price was not bad considering the huge price Subaru would have charged. It solved my issue and gave me my controls back. The window rocker switches are near enough that I do not care. The child lock button sticks up a bit higher than the original, but it is hard to be upset about that considering my old one didn’t work, this does.
Nice replacement switch, Adds auto down/up.

I installed the new switch in my 2002 Subaru Outback a couple days ago and so far it’s working nice. The installation was easy, just pop the control panel off the door(mine was already loose from pulling so hard on the old switch), pull the plugs and then 4 screws. Put it back together with the new part, snap the control panel back into the door and just like that the window works again. Note that I knew my problem was with the original switch, because if I pulled hard enough on the switch the window would move.It doesn’t look exactly like the OEM part but seems to be of good quality and adds an auto down/up feature for both driver and passenger windows. Mine originally only had auto down for the driver window, so the auto up is a welcomed addition. If you know your OEM switch is the problem or you just want to add the auto down/up to your windows I can recommend the SwitchDoctor replacement. The picture is with the SwitchDoctor replacement switch installed and the OEM switch on the right.

Better than OEM, apparently

The listing claims "identical in appearance and operation to the switch you are replacing," however as some others have said, this isn't exactly correct. It's actually an upgrade over OEM. The car originally had an auto-down function on the driver's window only. This adds the same function on the passenger side, and on top of that they both also go UP automatically, which wasn't built in to either side originally. It fits in the OEM spot and I don't think anyone would ever really know it wasn't OEM unless you told them. This thing deserves 6 stars because it's giving you MORE than what you paid or asked for, and cheaper than you'd ever get a new OEM replacement.
Great replacement for defective switch

Bought a used 2000 Outback from a neighbor, and she said the driver window didn't work and "it's not the switch". Well, after some probing, I concluded it was indeed the switch, so I bought this one. The fit is good, and this one seems to be better than the OEM because the one that was delivered has Auto up and down, for both driver and passenger switches. A very nice touch that wasn't shown in the picture in this Switch Doctor listing. This did fix the problem, and all windows now work. Feels a little less solid than the OEM, so I hope it lasts.

This replacement master window control switch seems to be a good replacement for the OEM switch on my 2000 Subaru Outback. Price was a significantly lower than any other place I looked. Installation was straight forward and the switch was an exact replacement for my original switch. It seems to be a little less rugged in the “functional feel” of the switch but it works very well and provides all of the OEM switch function completely. Only time will tell how “durable” this switch will be over time but so far I am very pleased with this purchase. Would definitely pitches it again.

Pretty simple plug and play, just needed a flat head screwdriver to pry the panel off and a philips to remove four screws. Far cheaper than similar parts I saw elsewhere. Mine did NOT have the auto feature on the passenger window that others have mentioned.

Needed a replacement for my 2000 Outback, and after figuring out it was the switch itself, ordered this. Came two days later, popped it in, and boom, windows are back to working! A little off on the fitment, but I believe it's because this is made for numerous vehicles. It functions perfectly, and glad to get it for so cheap, and so quickly!

This was almost plug' n' play. A narrow screwdriver will be needed to remove the whole module, and a Philips screwdriver for removing and replacing this set of switches. The Molex / AMP style plugs on both ends need to be removed with some care [ a LED headlamp helps!] I felt like this was a great price for what seems to be a direct replacement.
Works well.

It took about 10 minutes to replace the original. While my original switch had a lighted "Auto", the new switch does not. However, it is automatic both down and up on both the driver's and passenger's windows, whereas the original was only automatic on the driver's side down.

This switch is half the price of other OEM replacements and it actually improves the function of my car. Yes it comes with auto up and down for the front windows and yes it was super easy to install. The plug is a little bit lower than OEM which doesn't matter for install. Just figured I would throw that in there if anyone needs that info. It also seems like my windows go faster now but I'm not sure. Love this product.Fist picture shows the depth change of the plugSecond is the old switchThird is the new one.

It was cool because I didn't have to send my old one back first, they got on it right away. When I got the new one, everything worked fine.
