Jeep Cherokee Master Power Window Switch 1997-2001

When it comes to repairs, Jeep Cherokee XJ owners fall into three categories. 1. The part breaks and they take it in to get it fixed. 2. The part breaks and they they to fix it themselves (which usually works). 3. The part breaks and they simply don't fix it. One thing about us Cherokee owners is that we tend to either be frugal, or we refuse to replace the Jeep because we love the darn thing too much! Well, my 2001 Cherokee fell victim to a passenger window motor that kept getting slower and slower and eventually would not go up (on a freezing day, of course). I also noticed that my passenger window switch was no longer lit up, telling me that electricity in some way, shape or form was not getting over there.I scoured the XJ forums and discovered that the culprit was either the window motor, or the lock out switch on the driver's side was faulty cutting off the juice that makes it over to the passenger window. Naturally I tried the cheapest fix, which was the passenger window regulator/motor which only cost me $25, brand new on eBay. I replaced it and that didn't fix the problem. I did a bit more investigating online and found out that with a paperclip, the removal of a kick panel, and some jerry rigging, I could bypass the lockout switch which restored power to my passenger side (note: I will not give you instructions on how to do this for liability reasons but you can find it online and on youtube if you look around. UNHOOK the battery before you do the paperclip thing or you will electrocute yourself). This confirmed that it was indeed the lock out switch on the drivers side.The only other solution to my problem was to replace the master power windown/lock switch cluster. I called the dealership and refused to pay over $100 for this part so I checked Switch Doctor and sure enough, I scored this brand new replacement unit from the Switch Doctor. While I will agree with other reviewers that yeah, the build quality may not be as robust as the Jeep original, it works, and that is all that I care about. And I got it for half of the price of a Jeep original part. The lights on the switches are brighter than the stock unit and the switches all function exactly like the originals and I was excited to see my windows working fully again!I do recommend you watch a few youtube videos (Dorman makes the best one) on how to remove the panel if you have never done it before. Also, get a body panel trim removal tool from your local auto parts store and you will save your hands as well as some panel clips in the process. Good luck!I apologize for telling my complete story about the diagnosis and fix on the Cherokee but I'm sure there are a ton of other XJ owners out there that are dealing with or have dealt with the same situation that I did and this new switch from the switch doctor will not let you down. Again, stop complaining and buy that darn part!!!

Very easy to install and they are much brighter than the factory switch panels I have installed on the rest of the doors. It's nice to have the auto feature work on my drivers side windows. Just wish all 4 window switches had the auto feature. Def glad I got this and very happy with how crispy and smooth the window switches work as opposed to the worn out factory window switch panel. Well worth the money and at a great price as opposed to OEM.

An exact match for my 2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport.I was having an issue with others in my Jeep not being able to put down thier windows but they all worked fine from the driver's side console. I read online that the window lock in the driver's side console would go bad and cause the other windows to have issues. I bought this aftermarket becasue the Dealer part was just way to expensive.This plugged right in and worked great.The only minus with this product and the why its only "4 stars" is that the buttons are a little stiffer then the original one but that just could be the difference between a new one and one that's 14 yrs old.If you need to replace yours I would highly recommend this part for your Jeep too.

My husband is an Auto Technician for a major auto detailed so he was skeptical about me ordering this switch online instead of directly thru a dealer. He was very please by the quality, ease of installation and SAVINGS! It's nice to finally have all windows operating. We have had the part for a few months now and it works excellent!

Woohoo.. power windows and door locks all working again..This fit my 2000 XJ perfectly.Old door lock function was sketchy.. sometimes would lock, but almost never unlocked (lock switch had failed)All power windows would roll up and down from drivers seat, but not from any of the other door switches... (safety lockout switch had gone bad in the old unit, not alowing power to other windows even when lockout switch was in the off position...)This fixed both issues.. ... and for $25???????? what a deal.. lights are good, not really too bright like some other reviewers had mentioned..Buttons are a bit stiff,, but not bad...

All functions work as good as new OEM part. Finished fit is slightly off door trim cut outs but barley noticeable. Electrical connections fit well without being too tight or loose. Silk screening of lettering is slightly yellow compared to bright white of OEM part. Lighted spots on the button tops have the same slightly yellow shading like the lettering as compared to the clear lighted spots on the OEM switch. Cosmetic differences are not obvious enough to look out of place.I would give it five stars if functions more than three years trouble free. Since I just installed it, it gets four stars. Overall It's a good replacement.

I typically don't bother with writing reviews unless something is truly exceptional for the same reasons I'm not a fan of participation awards. Saying that, I should note that I bought this master switch for my 1998 Cherokee XJ back in 2016. This is important because after 5 yrs of regular use it finally failed me. I sent a note through Switch Doctor to the seller inquiring about their lifetime warrantee and shockingly received a response the same day letting me know they would fully honor it with a replacement. Most companies I have dealt with in warrantee issues would give me the run around of proof of purchase, what are the issues, did I do this or that?, and so on as I'm sure many of you have as well. Not so with SwitchDoctor. I volunteered my reason in my first contact and they affirmed my new address and sent it off to me. I received it today and I will never buy switches from anyone else if I don't absolutely have to. I highly recommend SwitchDoctor

Installed in my 98 XJ Classic which had issues all around electrically. I had removed and repaired both wire harnesses in the doors, each had a few broken shorts and wires. My passenger window regulator had the common broken bit on the wire end and was held shut with a small needlenose channel lock set (sweet, new tool!), Switch Doctor sells the replacement repair kit which I installed too. When I got to the drivers control panel I had seen folks disassemble them to reset the solder joints, so I attempted that.... failing miserably. I broke a lot of the plastic buttons. I had also seen the procedure to bypass the lock button on the control pad, but didnt do that. Bought this part, install took no time at all and got me all windows working 100% again and the window lock button works too! Thanks a heap!

This product is clearly not of the same build quality of the OEM product. However, it functions without issue and solved my window problems for a fraction of the cost. Form, fit and function is what I purchased and received.

I just got this today and it works great. I originally bought the Doorman brand one but the auto down feature on the driver window didn't work so I returned it and got this one. everything works on this one. It doesn't have that noticeable click for the auto down feature on the driver window but it does work.

I was going to bring my car to the mechanics as my window ceased to work Instead, I took a chance that the issue was to do with the switch rather than the window motor. Lucky guess. It took me almost 1/2 an hour to install, as I am not a mechanic, and probably didn't have the correct tools either. Anyway, with the help of some youtube videos, I got it installed and it has worked perfectly ever since( about one month so far). It's also an exact match for the factory installed version. I have a 2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport.

Light color is a little brighter and a lighter green than stock, but for my 99 XJ it was great replacement that gave me usage of my driver side window again.

Unlike the other reviewer, my switch unit does have the same discernible click for the driver's side window all-or-nothing mode. In fact the switch is indistinguishable from the factory part that I replaced. The "Dad" switch now works which means the passenger can actually control their window(the reason I replaced it in the first place), and everything else seem just perfect. As far as the seller goes, the shipping was very quick, and the product was exactly as advertised.

I purchased two of the Doorman switches, but the lock function did not work on both of them. All functions work on this switch in a 1998 Jeep Cherokee.

I purchased this product with my fingers crossed. It was so affordable that I was skeptical of the quality. So skeptical that I figured there was a high probability of it not even working so, I bought 2. Well, let me put your mind at ease. This product was a perfect match. The plastic, the weight and feel had all the makings of the original. You couldn't imagine my relief when I plugged it in and it worked! All lights, switches, functions. All of it was perfect. Beings that I own 2 xj's I will keep the extra switch in my box of spare parts. I highly recommend.

My application = 1998 XJ Jeep Cherokee - Sport model at around 125,000 miles; Just as iterated in many other customer reviews, this part was a direct-fit replacement, and fully resolved my issues of inoperative power mirrors, and inoperative passenger power window switches apparently due to the passenger lock-out switch going bad in the OEM switch assy. I have the common observations of noticeably stiffer switch action (vs OEM part), clearly brighter button lights (vs OEM part), and the impression of a little cheaper construction (in my case, the assembly's back plate has a hopefully non-functional mold filling defect that the OEM would not likely had allowed). Hoping for good durability, however this switch came with a lifetime warranty, so any future problem will be at least a little easier to tolerate.

Reviews were close to what I got. Lights are brighter than stock (not a big deal) and the performance is pretty good for the price. We'll see how it holds up after a week or so. Important to note that the connections are carrying a lot of amperage (for a switch), so when you first cycle the switches you might need to cycle them 2 or 3 times to get them to work. After that, everything works as it should.

Very easy install and fit perfect. Little leds on the switches all light up well. Fixed a few issues I was having with the stock switch... low power to passenger window (slow roll up), drivers window would intermittently not roll up, and the auto roll down works now too! So far so good, we'll see how long it lasts.

Installed on my 1999 Jeep Cherokee sport and it worked perfectly. I am buying a second switch because my first switch lasted for 2 years. And that's not bad for all the use and wear and tear I put into it. As far as I am concerned it's a good product. These are pictures of the damage one and how it broke. Good quality, easy to install, perfect fitment. As others said, the lights in the switches are brighter. This product fixed the window lockout switch issue I was having (the passenger window switches did not operate regardless of the position of the lockout switch on the driver's panel).

This solved the power window problems in my 1998 cherokee. It installed easily. The electrical plugs fit easily and exactly. The appearance is almost identical to the original. I doubt that any one will know the difference. The price is very good when compared to OEM. It's true that one could be found in the junk yard for next to nothing. But it may not work either.

I am replacing the switches in all three of my Cherokees. Works great and makes an older vehicle appear newer. The complaints that I have read are basically because they were installed in vehicles where the locks and mirrors don't work to begin with. These are not magic, they will only control what works in your vehicle to start with. If a window doesn't go down after installing than check the wiring or the window motor same with mirrors and locks. I have three Cherokees and eventually they all suffer the same problems of broken parts or motors. I'm glad this item exists and wish they also made other switches for the XJs.

Ordered this awhile back to replace my broken switch panel. I'ts held up well so far. My only complaints are that the lights are a different shade than the other door switches and the rear passenger switch has just began to work only intermittently, but not a huge deal to me.

Easy to install. Fixed the window problem but door locks still don't work. Don't blame this part though. Probably have another gremlin hiding somewhere in this 20 year old Cherokee. Good quality. Bright LED's.

Product arrived well protected, on time and worked very well. The window buttons backlighting was less green more brilliant that OEM but does the job.The largest connector was slightly difficult to connect. When putting the three mounting screws you need to be careful to not over tight them otherwise you will damage the plastic boss like I did.

Purchased this switch to replace the OEM switch that stopped working all the windows except for the driver. It was so much cheaper then OEM, I thought why not. The Switch Doctor worked for about 6 months and then the windows stopped working again. BUT, with their very easy on-line warranty and exchange policy, I received a new switch in 3 days and it works perfectly again. Even if it fails again, the lifetime warranty is well worth the time. It is what I would consider an easy replacement part (20 minutes tops).

This is a quality piece made from great materials. It just wasnt the remedy to my problem. I would buy this again if needed.

Overall, I was very happy with this. The only detractor is that I had to press a little hard at first to adjust my electric mirrors. It loosened up a bit, but that kind of stuck with me.

The media could not be loaded.  Like the fact that the switches have lights in them.

Quality feels less than original but it works. No modifications needed, plug and play.

I just replaced this master switch today on my 98 XJ. Replaced it b/c the passenger switches had no control. So far so good. I'm hoping it holds up for as long as the original. if I knew it was, it'd be a 5 star rating.

The green backlights are much brighter and a different shade than the oem ones. Otherwise, good product.

I installed this part to resolve an issue involving the child window lock on the original master switch causing no one else to be able to control their windows except me. From a bit of research, I determined I could either re-solder the part or pick up this brand new one for $20. Needless to say, I picked up this replacement part. Upon installation, I noticed the lock switch would pick and choose when to work. At first, I thought it had something to do with the door being open with keys still in ignition, but that wasn't it. It seems to have a mind of its own and chooses when to lock. The unlock function on the same switch works every time. I requested a replacement part 1:1 and am waiting for the new part now. Will update on how that goes.Update: I installed the new part and had the same intermittent problem. Upon further research, I found it may be due to bad solder joints ON THE PASSENGER CONTROL MODULE. Who'd have thought. I resoldered the joints on the passenger control module. If you don't see another update, consider my issue fixed

If after the purchase and installation of this product, your windows still don't work, it is entirely possible that the wiring harness between the door and the frame has a broken wire. Not exactly a fun bit of diagnostics to figure out, but take off the door panel, and driver's side kick panel and start CAREFULLY pulling the harness through (I went from the frame to the door). It took about an hour total. Sure enough, there was a broken 14 ga hot lead (black wire). Apparently this is a thing w/this generation of Jeeps. A few choice words and 1/2 pound of solder later, the windows were working again. I kept the new master switch b/c it actually has a better feel than the one I had to buy a few years back & now the driver's side window powers down as it did when it was OEM.

I originally purchased my product over 3 years ago. Install was easy, it worked great for the 3 years. Over the past few months, the window lock button started to stick, causing all the windows to lock and be inoperable except for the master controller. I contacted SwitchDoctor about the issue and they send out a replacement part, within the same week. It's a great product and even a better company to deal with. I will buy all Switch Doctor parts from now on.

My 99 Cherokee starting giving me trouble when trying to roll the windows down, and use the key fob to unlock the jeep. I replaced the original controller with this and to my surprise the illumination is the same shade of green as stock only brighter. The window rolls down without issue and the door is now locking/unlocking no problem. Definitely a good product, install takes about 10 minutes if you know how to remove the door card.

I have two Cherokee's (98 and 99). After 20+ years both have some flakiness in the window switches and lock mechanism. All actions ultimately run through this switch. I had taken the old one apart and cleaned everything which helped for a few months. I finally gave up and tried this. Fixed all the flakiness and the switches work great on all the doors again. The color of the LEDs is a bit different but nothing I can't live with.

This switch is an exact copy (well almost) and plugged right in. This fixed my issue with dead passenger side front window and intermittent driver's side window not working. Mirrors work and power locks work as expected. Easy to install as the door panel on the 2001 Jeep takes a screwdriver to remove, plugs right in, and you're driving down the road happy! Double check ALL connections before putting door panel back on.I've had this installed since summer 2021, so about six months of trouble free power windows!

I purchased this part to fix my automatic down option on the driver side window which may seem like a stupid reason to buy a whole new switch but couldn't argue the price. Works perfectly now and for the price I couldn't be happier. I'm putting 5 star on "easy to install" partially because I've taken the door apart a million times so it only took me about 5 minutes, but also because it is a very easy install that's simply plug-n-play. Entire install can be done with a Phillips head screwdriver.

Replaced the door switch in my 2000 Jeep and the old switch console was also from switch doctor. don't know how long ago was put in but I took it to work and took apart on our electrical solder bench. the solder flux quality is poor but what do you expect for twenty bucks - works great until it doesn't

I've order this before for my Dodge ram. Its the same for the 97-01 XJ. They work great and zero issues so far. I just ordered the passenger side now hoping it fixes my door lock problem. Good company to purchase from.

I have a 2001 xj and my windows were very slow that i used to push the windows up with my hands to help the motors, window lock button was locking by it self, passenger window button was working only in open and did not close, driver window auto option didn't work most of the time...i ordered this panel, took me 10 min installation and all my problems were solved. Good job switch doctor.

This was a quick 15 minute fix. All windows except the drivers door were not able to roll windows down. The soldering on the original had given up leaving the lock feature in lock mode. Lights in switch are a perfect match and lock feature works as it should again.

Tried the switch with door panel installed. Now the window lock works for passengers. Just be careful with the lock rods, they bend easy.

I was very happy with the quick delivery and that the product fit properly and worked correctly. I replaced the passenger window control switch and decided it was inexpensive enough to replace the drivers side also to avoid future problems. They were both original equipment and had seen lots of use so it might not be long before the other one failed also. I'm very happy with my purchases.

Basically fixed every issue with my windows and locks aside from a split wire that on the back right passengers door. 10/10 would buy again

Fits perfectly and works well. Might feel a little stiff when using the with to change the mirror selection, but it works well.

It even lights up, fixed my issue, before the only way to roll down the windows was from the drivers door. now it works so every door window switch functions like it should ✅✅3 screws and two plugs , easy install

my passenger windows would not work except at driver side controller. I installed this driver side controller and all my problems fixed. all windows work great.

My windows would only go down if I used the driver side switches. Finally replaced the main hub on the driver door and now all windows can be put down from their respective door! Fit perfectly and lights up.

My drivers side window works again in my 00 cherokee xj! Great product, even better price and I did not feel at all that it was cheaply made... to me it was no difference than oem. It even illuminates at night

You can buy this at the local auto parts store and pay triple or get this fulfilled from Switch Doctor (I got next day) for way less. Electrical parts on line could be risky but this one was not. Remove the old one and plug this one in.

This is a good unit. Does what it supposed to. Bought to fix all door locks but this wasn't the problem. Easy plug and play. Good ol xj lock problems.

The product fit well and everything works perfectly. The only thing I notice is that the green light tends to be a little more bright than on the stock unit, but that doesn't bother me much. Fixed my windows not working issue!

What's not to like. My old OEM switch quit working. This one was easy to install. It has been working flawlessly for 3 months.

Doors aren’t locking by themselves anymore and all my windows operate as they should. I’d say it’s a win!

Most window power issues are due to cracked wiring in your door jambs. The OEM switches are generally pretty good. Mine, however, went out and after ruling out the more likely culprits, I bought this and I'm in business! I've had this installed for a few months now and have not had a single issue with it.

Direct fit, the price is well worth the effort to install it; it do take a bit of work taking down the door panel & installing it.

This master switch is the direct replacement for my 2001 Jeep Cherokee and was very simple to install. Fitment was perfect looks just like the factory one. It's been installed for over 4 months now and I've had zero problems with it. The best thing is that it was 100.00 cheaper than one from O'Reilly auto parts. Thanks again Switch Doctor!
