1998-2000 Volvo 70 Series Window Master Control Switch Easy Removal/Installation Guide

5 MINUTE GUIDE

1. Removing the master switch from the door.

Use a small flat tip screwdriver to gently pry up on the part. A butter knife or metal nail file may also be used.

The part is held in place by four metal clips, two on each side. The clips are exactly 2 inches from each end. When prying, try to be in this general area to get the best results. Slide an unwanted plastic card between the door and the switch before you begin. Then slide your tool down between the card and the switch about 1/4 to 1/2 an inch and carefully pry up -- the card will distribute the pressure from leveraging the tool and prevent nicks like the ones in the photo above from uglying your door.

2. Removing the gang wire clips

There are three gang wire clips connected to the bottom of the master switch.

Don't remove the clips by pulling on the wires. On the side of the clip is a small button/tab used to release the clip. Push down on a wire clip and at the same time push in on the button/tab -- then pull up on the clip and it will release. The small clip is easy, however, you may need to use a small screwdriver to leverage out the other two clips. First use leverage with the screwdriver at the bottom of the tab. Keep the button/tab pushed in while you pry up. If necessary, slide the screwdriver into the center hole on the side of the middle clip and leverage up while pushing in the button/tab (if you have to do this, just use more force to leverage out the clips, the plastic is sturdy and you wont damage anything). I believe the right hole works best for leveraging the grey clip out.

3. Install your new master switch

Plug the clips into your new switch. Completely test your switch before dropping back in the door. You just saved the installation fee and a trip to the service center in less than 5 minutes!

(Remember to keep the ignition off while plugging/unplugging the switches).
